How Starting My Own Business Led Me to My Best Self
Hi there! I feel like we have so many new friends around here and I wanted to re-introduce myself and also let you know about our amazing launch party we had last month to celebrate The Platform Podcast!
I’ve always carried an innate ability to listen, hold space for people and help them navigate their issues in a loving, grounded way. Whether it’s with friends, colleagues, athletes, or random strangers, people are drawn to connecting with me on the deepest level. After playing volleyball at USC and serving as the co-captain of the Final Four team, I’ve spent the last 12 years covering sports. I’ve had access to the best of the best: Landon Donovan, Magic Johnson, and Candace Parker just to name a few.
But there were always pieces missing for me…
First, it was the ability to get to the real stuff. I didn’t get to ask them about their deepest fears, what got them up in the morning, what brought them to their knees or which moments shaped them.
The second thing missing was my ability to connect with women. I worked with almost all men in a male-dominated field. While that career had its countless obstacles I was forced to navigate, the biggest theme I began to see was my lack of interest in being surrounded by that energy all the time.
I had avoided women for much of my adult life because my experience with them as a child was traumatic. They were mean bullies who manipulated me, cast me to the side and suggested I was not welcome or worthy. The competition and jealousy were through the roof from a very young age, and once I hit high school, I was already deeply scarred.
But over the past few years, I’ve had this desire to be covered in loving, supportive female energy. I wanted to find and create the tribe of powerful, enlightened women I never had and teach young girls that this type of environment and sisterhood is very possible.
Now, I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention, I’ve spent the last 13 years in a painful health battle. At 17 my body began attacking itself with pneumonia, mononucleosis, Epstein Barr Virus and a slew of other issues. My body completely shut down at 19, and I was forced to retire from volleyball. My left leg was completely numb — it dragged behind me, I was in a deep depression, with severe pain from head to toe, blurred vision, digestive issues, chronic, horrible fatigue and no end in sight. I’ve seen every type of doctor, been diagnosed with a multitude of issues, many of which were completely wrong, and experimented with every diet, pain pill, muscle relaxer, and anti-depressant there is. You name it, they put me on it.
After years of running through conventional medicine, I had enough. I went the holistic route and it changed my life. I found a team to surround myself of self-care gurus, fascia specialists, functional medicine doctors, non-toxic brands, Ayurvedic practitioners, shamans, therapists, psychics, and reiki healers.
Now at almost 31 (holler at me my Sagittarius peeps!) with all the education and self-care I’ve accrued throughout this time, and with the support of an entourage of the best and brightest minds, I feel better than I have in I don’t know how long. I feel clear, I have better energy, I am vibrating at a different energetic frequency, and my spiritual path and consciousness have been blown wide open.
From a young age, I always wanted to be famous so I could help people. I wanted to be a doctor so I could heal. I wanted to tell the stories of the people that trusted me with their truths. I wanted to have a place where people felt safe to be themselves, to authentically connect and not be fearful of bullies, judgment or unworthiness.
The Platform Podcast, twice a week, brings you the many lessons that my guests and I have learned throughout our lives, the non-traditional physical and emotional healing we have experienced, the non-toxic products we love and believe in and the stories that inspire me daily.
Luckily, I have the most amazing team and friends in the world so their support of me and the show has been off the charts. So much so that I wanted to have a party to thank everyone involved and those who have inspired me daily.
We had a beautiful night hosted by the Movember Foundation filled with organic wine from Dry Farm Wines and organic tequila from Dulce Vida Spirits! The bar was poppin’! Then my incredible friend and chef Natalie Pukasemvarangkoon of Paleo Collective made the most royal spread of food you’ve ever seen in your life. Paleo food on a whole other level.
As I floated around the room, I was so touched by all of the authentic and deep conversations happening between my tribe. I realized that the people in my circle are so thoughtful and kind and interesting as hell and they aren’t afraid to get into really good conversations. Everyone in the room was connecting and genuinely wanting to support and help each other. I am so grateful for every single person.
Speaking of being grateful, we had so many great sponsors for our night and, I know I’m biased, but our goodie bags were the best!! I want to say thank you to everyone who contributed and also provide you all with DISCOUNT CODES for their products so you can try them out too. (Remember, for the most part I don’t get anything out of this. It’s to provide education and accessibility for YOU!) So below, find all of those links to SHOP!
I want you all to be a part of this beautiful circle of people I have created. We all need a safe space to learn and grow and blossom into ourselves. If you need more of that in your life, subscribe below! And shoot me a message on Instagram and let me know how I can best support you! It takes a village and mine is inspiring, loving and powerful.
Come hang out with us!
