The Benefits of Ayurveda + How It Changed My Life
There are so many diet fads. So many ways of living. So many belief systems around food and how it should serve our bodies. I’m going to ask you to take a moment to step back and see things from 6,000 years ago in India, where food is medicine, herbs can heal and balance, and simple oils during massage will move toxins out of your tissues and organs to allow your body to ascend to a higher level of being.
Ayurveda has profoundly changed my life. After finding Functional Medicine with Dr. Lekkos, I was introduced to Martha Soffer, the QUEEN of Ayurveda at Surya Spa in the Pacific Palisades. Martha is an Ayurvedic doctor, but I like to describe her as having the brains of a scientist and hands of an actual angel. She is intuitive, brilliant and incredibly kind.
When I first met with Martha, she took my pulse and checked my tongue and she was able to pinpoint exactly what was happening in my body. WITHOUT me telling her anything. I was shocked. No blood work. No stool tests. No urine samples. The woman just took my pulse and took a quick glimpse at my tongue and we were on our way!
After 30 days throughout last year of Panchakarma (a healing experience of massage with oils, enemas, specific diet, herbs, cooling treatments, and a variety other things) I felt like a different person. Martha truly taught me how impactful specific food is and that there is an herb or an oil for every ailment.
Ayurveda is ancient wisdom. But in its modern, practical use in the United States, it is a simple and straightforward way to heal. Listen to the incredible conversation I had with Martha earlier this week to learn more. We go through simple steps to healing your gut and immune system and ways you can implement Ayurveda into your day now!
